NeoKa Adventures takes on Milano for the very first time right before my (Karla) 24th Birthday. We have been to Italy now twice together, but this was our first time visiting the North of Italy. Most people would state there is not much to do in Milan, and you will only need a day to explore the whole city. While that may be true we believe you can definitely spend more than a day there!
For us Milan is a beautiful city that truly is known for their fashion and art scene. We were genuinely impressed with the city on how beautiful it was and how safe we felt. We say this because the first time we went to Italy together we felt a bit unsafe due to the pickpocketing scene, but we learned our lesson from last time and we truly enjoyed ourselves this time around.
We arrived in Milan the 11th of December with a full day ahead of us! We checked into our hotel, showered, got ready, and made our way to the first stop of the city, the infamous Duomo di Milano that one has to see when they are there. It was absolutely magnificent, the architecture looked like a painting when the sun hit it accompanied with the most beautiful blue sky. We were mesmerized in front of the Duomo, but we did not want to go inside quite yet because we wanted to see the sunset at the rooftop. As we gained an appetite from our travels we then went to eat the famous sandwiches from the company of Florence All’ Antico Vinaio where they now opened a location in Milano that we visited. It was our second time trying this sandwich shop and it did not fail us! We recommend you get any sandwich with pistachio cream because it is divine. Beware though that there is no seating inside, but there are benches across in a small plaza where you can eat.
From then on we walked the beautiful streets of Milano, and we made our way back to Duomo di Milano to buy our tickets to enter the Duomo. There are several tickets to get when you enter that either only include entering the Duomo or include the Duomo and Terrace combo which can either be going up the stairs or elevator. We chose the combo ticket for Duomo and Terrace with the elevator that costs us around €25 per person. We went inside and marveled around the beautiful architecture and took some pictures, and we later on had to go outside and around to go up the lift to get to the terrace and rooftop of the Duomo. It was our favorite part!! It was a lot bigger than we expected. It was massive. We got to walk on the stone shingles of the rooftop, and got to see the sunset from both sides of the Duomo. As well, you can walk directly in the middle admiring all the small details of the structure. It was absolutely stunning up there, and since we went during winter there were not as many people. We enjoyed the views and the sunset, and later on we headed down, but there is no lift taking you down you have to make your way down the long narrow stairs.
It is true though Milano is not a big city so you can visit all the major sites within one day since they are walking distance. Right next to the Duomo di Milano is the other most popular sight to see which is, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This is where all the fashion shops are located and since we visited during Christmas there were lights everywhere from all the designer brands ranging from Dior, Fendi, Prada, and Louis Vuitton. Here we walked around, went into Fendi, took pictures, but believe it or not there is a Prada Cafe right above Prada that is absolutely stunning and delicious. The cafe is called Marchesi 1824. Yes, you read that right Prada has a cafe right above it! The cafe includes delicious pastries, a variety of aperitivos, and delicious beverages. I (Neomir) had hot chocolate with a lemon cake, and I (Karla) had a christmas white chocolate raspberry cake with a latte. Everything was lovely, and delicious!
It was then getting late, and we were fighting jet lag, so we went back to our hotel to get ready for our next adventure and what it had to bring!!
